Mirabaud and sailing: a century long passion
Founded in Geneva in 1819, for over a century, Mirabaud’s name has been associated with completive sailing, as well as sailors and their exceptional feats.
The first tangible evidence of a racing sailboat belonging to the Mirabaud family dates back to 1888. There’s a photo archived at the Corsier Port shipyard showing Ivan Mirabaud’s splendid 7 ton Squaw, one of the first racing designs on Lake Geneva. The banking and finance group has supported the Bol d’Or Mirabaud since 2005.
Over time and over water, Mirabaud’s name is engraved in sailing in perfect concert with its business mission: organize talented people around common objectives.
Mirabaud offers its clients financial services and personal advice in three activity domains: Wealth Management (portfolio management, investment advisory services and services to independent estate managers), Asset Management (institutional management, fund management and distribution) and Brokerage and Corporate Finance (research, analysis, strategy and recommendations). The group employs around 700 people with offices in Switzerland, United Kingdom, Luxembourg, France, Spain, Italy, Canada, Hong Kong and United Arab Emirates.
Mirabaud likes to promote initiatives, but also the men and women who defend its values. The group is therefore committed to supporting projects and personalities that embody performance and excellence. Here are a few examples of Mirabaud's commitment in the world of sailing.
Bol d’Or Mirabaud
Mirabaud is sponsor of the Bol d’Or Mirabaud since 2005. Mirabaud charters three “Surprise” class boats in each regatta, and invites its employees to form crews to take the the start. Mirabaud crews have already succeeded in making the prize list.
Mirabaud LX – the sailboat with no hull
Built on a tubular carbon fiber support structure, Mirabaud LX, with its carbon hydrofoils and its composite material rigging, constitutes a real engineering jewel. Mirabaud supported this innovative project from the beginning, allowing Geneva engineer and sailor Thomas Jundt to win numerous regattas and to beat Lake Geneva speed records.
Mirabaud Yacht Racing Image
Mirabaud is the principle partner of the Mirabaud Yacht Racing Image photo contest, which chooses the best sailing images of the year. Organized in 2009, this international contest, limited to professional photographers, reaches millions of sailing and photography lovers each year.
Mirabaud has been one of the Yacht Racing Forum partners since it started in 2008. The Yacht Racing Forum is the annual meeting of the world’s sailing professionals.
Mirabaud is also one of the loyal partners of Swiss Sailing Night, an event created to celebrate the country’s best sailors.
Mirabaud has supported the professional racing team, Spindrift racing, for three years (2014-2016). They won the Bol d’Or Mirabaud 2016 and the D35 Trophy on the D35 Ladycat.
The group has also been the proud sponsor of Geneva yachtsman, Dominique Wavre, for the past seven years (2010-2016). Mirabaud has supported him across the seven seas, including the Barcelona World Race (2010-2011), the Transat Jacques Vabre (2011) and the Vendée Globe (2012).
A few years ago, Mirabaud supported the English women’s Olympic sailing team, and celebrated a gold medal during the Beijing games! And let’s not forget Mike Horn, who achieved various extreme sailing exploits under the same colors.
