    Mixed 2018 Winner Interview

We wanted to know how the crews of the first multihull (Mobimo), the first monohull (TBS) and the first boat in compensated time (Black Swan) experienced the 2018 edition. Review of their respective victories below!

AH (ACVL): Alain Hofer (Black Swan), winner in compensated time
CW (Multi): Christian Wahl (Mobimo), winner in real time
FT (Mono): François Thorens (TBS), monohull winner

The 80th edition on one word?
    AH (ACVL): Nice.
    CW (Multi): Great!
FT (Mono): My 10th Bol d'Or... but the first time I was able to win with my own boat, TBS Ardentis, with my veteran amateur crew.

What was the decisive moment for your victory?
AH (ACVL): From entering the central lake sector to the finish line.
CW (Multi): The start! And managing maneuvers such as when we were in 6th place on the return leg and we were able to find puffs in the fading wind to move us ahead of the fleet. We felt that this Bol d’Or Mirabaud 80th edition was going to be determined at the finish line, but when we passed one of our competitors near the Swiss shore, we knew we were going to win it. It was close until the end.
FT (Mono): When we passed Raffica offshore from Versoix during the return, thanks to a good strategy and an attentive crew.

What’s your best memory of this edition?
AH (ACVL): A tough fight with hydrofoil Banque Gonet during the night.
CW (Multi): Obviously, the finish and the burst of joy felt by the crew! A breathtaking finish and a win on my birthday.
FT (Mono): Giving my crew a victory! And all the messages received after crossing the finish line: SMSs from friends and phone calls, especially from my brother.

Do you have any advice for competitors in your class?
AH (ACVL): Stay patient and aware.
CW (Multi): I will always be here! :-)
FT (Mono): Continue to race in this great regatta, and sail mostly for fun; all the better of the results are good too!

    What’s your goal for 2019?
AH (ACVL): First, have fun, but place well… that’s always a pleasure.
CW (Multi): Win my 8th Bol d'Or Mirabaud... what else?!
FT (Mono): Find new sponsors and continue to enjoy a boat as magical as a Psaros.

To celebrate it 80th birthday, the BOM published a cartoon book that recounts the history of the regatta. Scriptwriter Patrick Mallet selected thirteen artists to illustrate the different phases of the BOM history, with the cover drawn by DeRib. The cartoon book is available in the principal Swiss bookstores for CHF 20.- and on . A nice Christmas gift idea for your sailing friends!
