G.Hominal et fils wins the Surprise fleet of the Bol d’Or Mirabaud 2018

  • The first Surprise finished the race at 12:25 Sunday after 26 hours, 24 minutes and 15 seconds of racing. It was G. Hominal et Fils, helmed by Nicolas Kauffman. He was accompanied by Even Jacot Descombes, Philippe Lorency and Nicolas Anklin, the latter of who delivered a double performance since he also won the 79th edition aboard Mirabaud 1.

    G. Hominal et Fils (previously Eaux Secours) led the race from start to finish… an exceptional performance among a fleet that’s as competitive is it is numerous. No fewer than 121 one-designs were registered in this class! “It was a magnificent race. We had a good start, heading toward Chambésy from the edge of the Surprise starting line. We were able to really break away from the group. This allowed is to maximize speed as we weren’t shadowed by bigger boats. We executed a super outbound leg with a healthy lead. As we left the western sector of the lake, we made the right choices entering the central sector. Behind us, the wind dropped for our competitors and we increased our lead up to Evian, almost 13 kilometers. After that, we managed to control the race all the way to the finish,” explains Nicolas Kauffman, helmsman of the winning Surprise, with a smile.
