Full Throttle Start for the 79th Bol d’Or Mirabaud

  • The 2017 Bol d’Or Mirabaud started under simply exceptional conditions: 15-18 knots of "bise" and a radiant sun.

The favorites turned on their turbochargers as of the starting cannon, as Swisscom, Realstone, Zen Too and Safram launched were launched toward the offset mark.

Then Décision 35s Alinghi and Spindrift quickly broke away, taking the lead near Anières. During this time, the first problems were announced: two monohulls collided shortly after the start, a torn mainsail on M2 catamaran De Groof Petercam offshore from Anières, Tradition capsizing offshore from Nernier, and the abandonment by 2nd Chance upon entering the middle part of the Lake.

Note that only material damages occurred and all the crewmembers are safe and sound.

The race is progressing at high speed. The first multihulls - Ladycat Powered by Spindrift Racing and Alinghi are now (12:30) driving at 16 knots toward Lavaux, followed by Okalys, Swisscom and Safram.

Among monohulls, Implancentre Raffica is leading the pack ahead of Psaros 40 Szy & Co and "old" Taillevent, a 1990s Americas Cup Class replica, which performs particularly well to windward.
